Finally my 18 months with my N95 has come to an end and I’ve finally been able to upgrade my phone to something a little snazzier
What phone have I decided to upgrade to ? well after much thought and deliberation I’ve decided to go for the Samsung SGH-F480V, a rather natty little phone with touch screen technology

Picked it up last night from the Vodafone shop in the Trafford centre, though I spent about 2 hrs deciding whether to get this phone or get the HTC Touch Diamond, I liked the HTC phone a lot, but found it just a little bit to fiddly to use, especially for someone with sausage fingers like my own.
So what do you get for your money with the F480V then well here’s here’s some of the specs for it
- 2.8″ touch screen
- Intuitive navigation
- 5.0 Megapixel camera
- Autofocus, image stabilisation and LED flash
- MP3 Music player
- 3G HSDPA connection
- Dimensions: 96 x 55 x 12mm Weight: 91g
- Standby time: 250 hours
- Talk time: 3 hours
As well as the above it has a very easy to use touch-screen interface which after a few minutes use is easy to navigate, it also has on its main screen widgets similar to those found in Mac OSX, there’s a music widget so you can start playing tunes straight away without having to find your way through the menu, there’s a photo widget which allows you to change your desktop/screen-saver to another picture with 2 easy taps of the screen, there’s even a birthday widget which as long as you have your contacts birthdays listed in your calendar will remind you when the time to buy a present is, something that will greatly assist me in keeping on the good side of Mel and a few friends.
So all in all I think its a pretty decent phone, though I’m yet to test its connectivity with my Apple Macs, something I’ll be trying later today.
Oh I just love getting new gadgetsÂ

Today I discovered that I can get VOIP to work on my N95, even though Vodafone and a few of the other Mobile phone supplier’s had decided they did’nt want me or anyone else to have it enabled on there N95′s, all it took was a little visit to fring.com where I filled in a few details relating to my mobile, I then received a file from fring.com via SMS and installed it on my Nokia and then added/set up my Skype account on the N95 and Bob was ya uncle I had VOIP on my phone.
Now in order to use VOIP I have 2 ways of using Fring, one is by using my mobile to connect to the internet and then start the Fring software up and make a call to a Skype contact, which to be honest isn’t exactly as free as I’d hoped as I still have to pay Vodafone for the connection to the internet via my mobile, which believe me isn’t cheap . . alternatively I can just use the N95′s WI-FI technology to connect to any Wireless Access point and access the internet that way and then as before start and use the Fring software to dial one of my Skype contact’s . . . however this time I don’t have to pay for the call unless of course it’s my own Wireless Network, in which case I’m paying for the internet access for my PC at home anyway, so it is free as I’ve already paid.
Best thing though is that I can jump on my works Wireless internet and make and recive calls for free there, saving me a bundle on call’s to business’s I deal with who use Skype/VOIP etc.
Anyway you should check fring.com and the N95 out

Global Positioning System on a Phone whatever next, I seem to recall telling you about my new Nokia N95 phone the other day and about it’s snazzy applications that come with it, well I got the GPS up and running on it today and it’s pretty damn amazing I can tell you, got it running on the way to work this morning and watched as the map on the screen moved in accordance with the route I took to work, it’s going to come in pretty hand to be honest seeing as I still only know my way around about a 3rd of Manchester, will give it a proper test at the weekend when I have to go pick a mate up from Stockport, as I still have problems locating places over that way.
Best thing about it as well, is once its picked up your exact position you can then scroll around the map and it shows up all locations that may be of interest i.e. Petrol Stations, Train/Tram Stations etc

Yep 18months have finally gone by since I last upgraded my mobile phone, so today I was able to go into Vodaphone and choose my new phone . . I felt like a child in a candy shop, looking at all the lovely new phones I could choose from, after previously using the Nokia N70 and the Sony Erricson W800i, I plumped for the Nokia N95
Main reasons for choosing this particular Nokia was the fact it has a 5megapixel camera on it with a Carl Zeiss Optic, thats the same as my Canon digital camera that I normally use, took some sample shoots with it and am well impressed, other things I liked about it were the built in MP3 player with built in speakers, good quality sound coming from it to, I’m also well liking the fact it’s got built in GPS, no idea when I’ll use it but you just never know when you might get lost on a mountain top, even better still it has a built in Wireless card, so I can jump on any Wireless Access Point, fucking amazing or what, still got loads of other stuff I don’t know about on it yet, but slowly going to find out over the coming weeks . .. . but the best thing about it is I got it for free on my Pay Monthly plan
